If you’re out and want to arrange to meet someone, or perhaps if you’re travelling, it can be very useful to share your location with your long-suffering partner who’s due to pick you up, or with loved ones who want to know how delayed you are. We explain how to do this with the popular app WhatsApp
One of the most useful ways to do this is via WhatsApp, as you can choose to share your location with more than one person at a time if you want to do so.
You can either share your location with an existing group – perhaps your family group, for example – or you can set up a new group, such as the people you’re on your way to meet.
First, open the individual chat or the group chat, and then in the text box, tap the paperclip icon. In the box that pops up, tap Location, and if you haven’t already, allow WhatsApp access to your location.
On the next screen, you’ll see a Google map of where you are, and below that a list of nearby locations as well as the option to share your live location. Tap Share live location, and then pick how long to share your location: choose between 15 minutes, an hour and eight hours.

You can add a comment at this point (perhaps something like ‘Train delayed, thought I’d let you see where I am’), and then tap the Send arrow. You’ll then see your location on the map in the app, and an option in red to Stop sharing.
You can tap that any time to immediately end your location sharing.
